Andy Sinnott is hoping his old side can beat Burton Albion to complete the double for Oxford City.
Sinnott was part of the team that pulled off a surprise 1-0 victory at Burton in 1978, thanks to a Bob Green strike – it was the only time before Sunday the sides have met.
“It was a classic Cup win,” said Sinnott, who played more than 250 games for City and later managed them.
“I’ve got good memories of our win up there.
“Burton were a real unknown quantity. And of course, this was before the days of the internet so you couldn’t do any research – when you found out about them was when you stepped on the pitch.
“It was at Burton’s old ground. There was a great surface and it was a very tough game, but we won it against the odds.
“One of Bob Green’s best attributes was his pace. He had been out of the side for a while and then Maurice Kyle brought him back in for the Burton game. And he went and got the winner.
“He thought that would cement his place in the side, but it didn’t happen.”
Sinnott, who is assistant manager at City rivals Brackley Town, will be making the trip to the Pirelli Stadium, while Green aims to cut short his holiday in Tenerife to be at the game.
Green said: “I still remember scoring the winning goal that day.
“I shall be going out to Tenerife, but I am trying to rearrange my flight back to return on Saturday evening instead of Sunday, in order to get up to Burton.
“I have been watching them this season and think they are capable of bringing off a cup shock.”
