Peter Soane played through the pain barrier to score the winning goal as Faringdon Town came from behind to beat Saxton Rovers 2-1 in the North Berks League Centenary Cup final.
Soane suffered the recurrence of an old shoulder injury following a collision with Saxton keeper Darren Spayes.
Both players were able to carry on after treatment.
Saxton Rovers took the lead when a deflected shot by Adam Greenaway fell to his teammate Garry Hartley, who calmly netted from six yards.
Faringdon were level. Soane sent over a cross onto the head of Derren Harrington who nodded into an empty net.
Just before half-time Soane turned to the bench and requested to go off, but Faringdon’s boss Simon Harrington refused.
And within five minutes of the re-start his decision was justified as Soane scored the winner from close range.
A point-blank save by Chris Webb kept Faringdon in front and later led to skipper Gary Sutton receiving the cup from Chris Ledger, from Allsports Trophies.
