Ton-up Dougie Robinson ran away with the honours in Oxford Bus AC’s match at Lodge Farm, Fritwell, writes Andy Webber.
The lake was well down from its normal level, but that did not stop Robinson weighing in an amazing net of carp weighing 115.8.0.
Fishing pole and pellet at 11 metres against a feature, he finished more than 100lbs ahead of the next man.
With a few carp and perch, Dennis Butler finished second with just 11.14.0 Fishing around six metres out and trying several different baits, Terry Yates had to settle for third place with 7.6.0.
With Winter League starting tomorrow, there was a practice match at Radley, where the the 31 matchmen had to work hard for their catches.
Drawing a peg below the boathouse, Neil Reed (Fox Match Isis) found ten chub for a winning weight of 35.9.0. He fished the feeder and maggot.
Runner-up was Paul Glenfield (Banbury Gunsmiths Garbolino), who with a net of waggler and maggot, caught chub weighing in 27.1.0.
On the first peg above the boathouse, Richard Head (Drennan GOT Baits)was third with 25.11.0.
Masons switched their Points Match from Medley to Clattercote, where 14 matchmen fished in windy conditions.
Just two ounces separated the first two, Barry Gosbee coming out on top with nine bream, one carp and several roach for 25.8.0.
Pete Callaghan was the unlucky runner-up with 14 bream, but the loss of two carp meant he finished with 25.06.00. Third was Steve Phillips with a bream, tench and roach bag of 22.6.0.
The Thame at Holton Mill was the venue for the latest Oxford Waltonian match fished by 12.
Catching perch up to 2.8.0, roach up to 1.2.0 and a bream of 4.0.0, Paul Armstrong walked the match weighing in 21.0.0, using worm over chop.
Chris Webb settled for second spot with 11.2.0, and perch on caster, ahead ofGraham Bowen, with 5.13.0 of perch.
The canal at Kings Bridge was on form for the North Oxford AC’s match fished by 13.
Despite heavy boat traffic, Paul Jackman, fishing the pole hard over with chopped worm finished with winning weight of 15.4.00 – all chub.
Henry Clarke came second with 7.2.0, with Jason Bean third on 6.8.0, Jolly Anglers fished their Adrian Payne Pairs on the Oxford Reach.
Top weight among the nine competitors was the 15.0.0 taken by Martin MacDonald, who started off on the waggler and maggot to catch 55 roach.
He then switched to the maggot feeder and promptly caught chub.
Thanks to a couple of 3lb chub, Bill Davis was second with 10.0.0.
There was a tie for third with Anthony Brooker and Phil Ansell both recording 5.15.0.
Littlemore’s Thames Shield was fished on the Channel, where the minimal flow meant that chub were scarce.
However, if there is one angler, who could defy it would be Gerald Perks.
He managed to get two out – one on maggot feeder and the other on the waggler. He also had a few roach and perch to claim the Shield with 12.12.0.
Alan Campbell switched from feeder to pole with chopped worm and weighed in a net of perch and roach for 7.13.0.
Brian Hutchings had 20 roach for a third place 6.0.0.
Dorchester’s Friendship Cup was fished on a low and clear Thame.
Using a pole with maggot fished against the far bank, Ted Budd weighed in a chub of and some bits for a winning 6.4.0.
For the second week running, Mick Marriott had to settle for second place with 1.14.0.
John Wheeler fished a stick float with maggot on his long pole, to come third on 0.14.0.
