Vale of White Horse Under 15s bowed out of the English Schools’ FA Trophy with a 3-0 defeat by an impressive Barnet side in the second round at Milton United.
The pace, ball control and passing skills of the visitors were outstanding, and Vale were unable to match them.
Barnet took the lead after ten minutes when keeper Zaki Oualah could only parry a high ball and it crept inside the far post.
Five minutes later, Vale were caught napping from a short corner, allowing Barnet to score in the top corner.
Vale produced a much better second-half performance, and Chris Da Silva went close before a deflected shot five minutes from time clinched a comfortable Barnet victory.
Mid Oxon were handed a bye by Wellingborough & Rushden, and are now at home to Nuneaton in round three at a venue and on a date to be arranged.
l VALE of White Horse Under 11s slipped to a 5-2 defeat against South Gloucestershire in the Witney Cup first round at Bristol.
With two boys – including goalkeeper Harry Whitehead – getting lost on the way to the Patchway Sports Centre, Vale had to reshuffle the pack and the tie kicked off 15 minutes late.
Stand-in keeper Lee Davis kept a clean sheet until midway through the first half, and then conceded again before half-time.
Alfie West pulled a goal back early in the second half, but then the South Gloucestershire side scored twice more to make it 4-1.
Joe Hartley reduced the deficit, but the hosts wrapped up victory with a fifth goal.
Oxford, making their return at this age group after an absence of several years, also fell at the first hurdle with a 3-1 defeat at Solihull.
Solihull led at half-time through a long-range strike, but Oxford pushed forward after the break and were rewarded with an Owen Harris equaliser.
But then Oxford conceded a soft goal, and an unstoppable shot sealed their fate.
