Oxford United were being held goalless at half-time by Thurrock in the FA Cup.
The in-form Blus Square South side started stronger in the fourth qualifying round tie at the Kassam Stadium but the U's gradually got on top with some fine passing moves.
Adam Murray went close with a shot against the outside of the post, but Thurrock also had several threatening moments.
Adam Chapman returned to Oxford's starting line-up, operating in central midfield.
