With the lack of rain leaving the Thames clear, and an overnight frost causing the temperature to drop just below freezing, it was always going to be tricky for anglers fishing the Angling Times Winter League at Medley last Sunday.
As predicted last week, it was the deeper stretches at Folly that produced the individual winner, with Dave Kirk (Fox Match Isis) weighing in a fabulous bag of perch totalling 25.2.0.
His winning bag included four fish over 2lb and plenty over the 1lb mark, all caught over chopped worm.
Michael Denton (Oxford Drennan Got Baits) was second with 19.0.0, consisting of nine chub. He was drawn on Medley around the mudflats and fished a chopped worm feeder.
Henry Golas (Fox Match Isis) was third with an 18.9.0 bag of perch caught at Folly near the white cottage.
Teams on the day: Drennan Oxford Got Baits 48pts, Sensas A4 46, Faringdon Exiles 37, Fox Match Isis 32, Carp League 27, Garbolino Banbury Gunsmiths 26, North Oxford14.

Beehive AC fished for the Abingdon Blast Cup on a frost-hit Stable Lake which made sport hard for the 14 anglers.
Kevin Jeacock took the honours, fishing at 14.5 metres to the island in 12 inches of water with maggot to tempt 28.8.0 of carp.
In second spot was Martin Wilkinson, who fished the maggot-feeder to take 17.4.0 of carp, and third went to Steve Dingle, who used the same tactics for a net of carp and bream for 13.6.0.
For the first time, Oxford Bus AC took on Masons on their famous ‘School Waters’, where 21 anglers took part and it proved such a success that it will become an annual fixture.
A net of perch, roach and bleak on pole and maggot saw Anthony Tompkins (Oxford Bus) take top spot with 8.10.0.
Pete Clarke (Oxford Bus) was second with 7.5.0 of roach and perch on pole and maggot, and Dennis Patrick (Masons) caught perch, roach and bleak for a third-placed 6.4.0.
There was a good turn-out of 13 for the Jolly Anglers match on the Town Waters, but the fishing was poor due to a low and clear river.
Starting off on the feeder and maggot, Anthony Brooker caught a few chublets, before switiching to the waggler for a few more, plus some small roach, for a winning 6.15.0.
Using the maggot-feeder, Bill Davis caught two perch and two pups for a second-placed 3.1.0. Dick Edmunds had to settle for third place with 2.14.0.

It was a real struggle for the ten matchmen who fished Kidlington’s La Patisserie Cup at Bullingdon Lake.
Overnight frost put the lid on the water and everyone struggled.

The Evenlode desperately needs some rain and it was running very low and clear for the Charlbury match fished by 12.
Using a small waggler with red maggot, Mark Taylor caught perch, roach and dace worth a winning 4.12.0 to pip Steve Arthurs, who had a chub plus bits on stick float and maggot for 4.10.0.
Also on the stick float, trotting down maggot, Mick Burbidge caught a decent chub, plus roach and dace for a third-placed 3.15.0.
