Dorchester’s Ron Skates Memorial was fished by eight anglers on the Thame downstream from the bridge.
The river is painfully low and clear and a frost didn’t help, resulting in four blanks.
John Wheeler drew a noted chub swim, but was out of luck as they did not show. However, he landed a pike and some bits on pole and maggot.
At the weigh-in, John discovered the pike had scoffed the smaller fish, but he still managed a winning 11.4.0, plus the Golden Peg which had been running for a couple of years and was worth £100.
Mick Marriott netted two chub on pole and red maggot worth a second-placed 5.6.0, followed by Rod Rose with a solitary 2.2.0 chub on maggot-feeder.
