Reigning champions Headington A got off to a good start with a 5-1 win over Abingdon A in Ladies’ Division 1 of the Oxford and District League.
The team of Ali Ross, Becky Foster, Helen Ashdown and new county champion Helen Palmer are surely favourites for the title again.
Palmer also featured in Headington A’s first match in Division 1 of the Mixed league, partnering Dave Soanes to take all three of their rubbers in a 5-4 win over Windrush A.
Oxfordshire 2nd thrashed Cornwall 1st 12-3 in Division 3D of the Inter County Championships.
Emma Crammond (nee Martin) was Oxfordshire’s best performer, winning her singles, both doubles with Sarah Torgersen and her mixed doubles with Martin Graham.
However, Oxfordshire 3rd went down by the same score at Worcester in Division 5C, with Abingdon-based 16-year-olds Poppy Bensberg and Harriet Allen gaining county caps.
Allen won her singles, while Will Green with Adrian Brown took two men’s doubles.
Oxfordshire Under 15 A opened their campaign with an 18-2 home drubbing by Hampshire at Bartholemew School, Eynsham.
