Oxford United’s awayday saviour, Simon Clist, admits he wouldn’t mind finding the net at home now!

The midfielder earned the U’s a precious point with his equaliser nine minutes from time at York on Saturday to keep Chris Wilder’s men seven points clear at the top of the Blue Square Premier.

Remarkably, it was Clist’s SIXTH goal on away grounds for United, yet he hasn’t scored at the Kassam Stadium.

“Yes, away from home I’ve managed to get the goals . . . but not at home yet,” he admitted following Saturday’s match. “Hopefully that will change soon.

“It was a useful point. If we can win our home games, which we’re doing at the moment, and come to places like York, that’s what you need.

“Other teams might not be able to get a point here, it’s a tough place.

“They’re another team wanting to get in the play-offs at least and the two points taken off them damages their chances as well.”

Clist netted last season in the 3-0 win at Eastbourne, 3-1 triumph at Rushden and 2-0 success at Woking – the last of those a 25-yarder.

And this season goals have followed – some of them similarly spectacular – in the 4-3 victory at Histon, 2-0 win at Ebbsfleet and now the 1-1 draw at KitKat Crescent.

Clist will be hoping to break his home duck this weekend when the U’s take on Thurrock in the FA Cup at the Kassam Stadium.

And they will need goals from other departments because striking duo James Constable and Matt Green are both suspended.
