Point-saver Simon Clist believes Oxford United did well not to buckle as they fought back from a goal down and with time running out at York on Saturday.
The midfielder earned the U’s their 40th point of the campaign with an 81st-minute equaliser, after Michael Rankine looked to have fired the Minstermen to victory ten minutes earlier.
“Sometimes it’s hard to keep your focus at those points, but I thought we did that well,” Clist said.
“We didn’t lose our heads at all, stayed positive about things and we knew we’d get one or two chances before the end of the game, and that was the case.
“Luckily for me, it was an easy chance, but you still need the composure to finish.
“Jack Midson had a cross-come-shot and I just anticipated it. It ran across the face of the goal, and I had an easy tap-in.
“I just had to concentrate on making good contact with the ball, I knew the keeper was going to be beaten from that range.
“York play a physical game and play the ball direct to their strikers when they can.
“It was a tough game for our centre halves today, and the whole back four, but they came through it well.
“There were some great late blocks and players throwing themselves in the way, and that’s what you want.”
Manager Chris Wilder said: “We were disappointed with the goal we conceded, there was a lack of organisation because Chappy’s (Adam Chapman) come on straight away and their left winger’s got out and stuck the ball in the box.
“But we’ve recovered from it and gone on to get something from the game.
“There were a lot of ordinary performances out there with the ball.
“I thought first half we passed really well, without having a cutting edge, and they started better than us second half and we found it difficult to get out.
“York had a real go at it knowing they really had to beat us. We’ve got a healthy lead over a club that’s bought a lot of players over the summer.”
