Didcot Tn 0

Cambridge City 1 (Stewart 37)

Didcot Town were undone by a first-half Laurie Stewart strike as they fell to defeat at the Loop Meadow Stadium.

The Railwaymen were competitive throughout, but once again lacked the killer touch in front of goal.

The visitors shaded the opening exchanges, and went in front when a corner to the near post was not dealt with and Lee Chaffey clipped the ball towards goal.

Matty Jack cleared off the line, but Stewart pounced on the rebound to score.

In the second half, Didcot went close when Stuart Bridges powered a header from Morgan Williams’s free-kick just over the bar.

Cambridge could have doubled their lead, but Steve Gentle’s header was off target.

In Didcot’s best spell of the game, Alex Stanley went close to equalising.

Williams delivered a pin-point free-kick to the back post where Martin Brown headed back across goal, only for Stanley to fail to apply the finishing touch.

Didcot poured forward, but could not find a breakthrough.
