HORSPATH Hammers stand on the verge of winning a remarkable treble.
It follows their thrilling 88-86 victory at home to Birmingham Monarchs in their final British Premier League encounter, which went down to a last-heat decider.
The result means that the Oxfordshire aces need just a win at Great Blakenham tomorrow to add the league title to their British Team Championship and South West Division 1 Championship triumphs.
They won the regional title by winning 91-86 at Hellingly, before edging to a 92-88 success at Filton.
Both successes saw Hammers young riders step up to the plate especially at Hellingly, where only Steve Harris and Matuesz Szymczak competed from their British Premier League squad.
Four 6-4s and a 6-3 put Horspath 11 up at the halfway stage at Hellingly.
However, the hosts’ clever use of the tactical substitution rule bought them back into the match.
Harris and Szymczak led the way for Hammers, though there was solid scoring from all their youngsters.
Hammers scorers: S Harris 18, M Szymczak 17, J Smith 10+2, W Clarke 11, L Clarke 10, M Coulter 9+3, R Edge 7+1, Z Payne 9.
In the Filton clash, Hammers faced a much stronger Flyers’ line-up with scores going back and forth throughout the meeting.
Hammers had Mark Carmichael fresh from his Welsh Championship win, Mike Morgans and Wayne Hutt back for this meeting.
Morgans, in for Szymczak, scorched to a 20-point maximum.
He was well-supported by Steve Harris, who dropped just one point and Carmichael.
Again though the youngsters had their moments in a fine victory, which in the recent Hammers tradition went to a last heat decider with Morgans and Harris bagging a 7-3.
Horspath scorers: L Clarke 7+1, S Harris 18+1, W Clarke 8+1, W Hutt 9, M Morgans 20, M Coulter 7, M Carmichael 18, J Smith 5.
