The ‘Beast of Boddington’ is no more.
The huge pike from the Daventry stillwater which made front page headlines in the national angling press earlier this year, has been found dead. It weighed 43lb.
The big predator was caught several times last winter around the 40lb mark and was the heaviest known stillwater pike, quickly becoming a target for specimen hunters.
Although give the appearance of being very tough, large pike need to be treated very carefully when caught.
Hooks should be removed quickly and with great care, and fish should be rested before being returned gently.
