Nick Morley was the star of Witney’s match on the Thames at Northmoor with a cracking bag of chub.
It was always going to be a struggle in the clear conditions, but the winner had few problems.
Using waggler and maggot, he netted nine chub in the first hour and a half, and then in the last hour, added another three to weigh in 42.14.0.
His best fish weighed 6.10.0 and he finished well clear of the 14-strong field.
Next weight was 3.6.0, compiled by Paul Pickett, who had two small chub, four perch and a roach on waggler and maggot.
Colin Manning finished third with 2.13.0, consisting mostly of a 2.12.0 perch.
There was a good turnout of 19 for Sutton Courtenay’s J Mullions-R Croucher Memorial fished on the Otneys, where the Thames had a tinge of colour, but very little flow.
Alan Hewer walked this match with an impressive 20.2.0, fishing the groundbait feeder with worm to catch skimmers, roach and perch.
Feeding hemp and maggot and fishing pole and maggot, Bob Gosbee was runner-up with a net of roach for 11.1.0, while also among the roach was Ian Higgins, who used waggler and maggot for 9.2.0 and third.
The latest Berks/Oxon match was organised by Dorchester on the Thame below Dorchester Bridge.
Chub of 5.5.0 and 4.8.0, plus another on maggot-feeder, helped Dick Edmunds take the honours with 12.5.0.
In second place was Mick Marriott with 8.5.0, including a nice perch of 2.2.0, plus more perch, roach and bits, on pole and maggot.
Matt Micallef (Acorn Ang-ling) had to settle for third place for the third week running. He weighed in perch and chublets on either worm or caster for 5.9.0.
Upstream from the Dorchester match, 11 Oxford Waltonian members fished their C&J Cup at Wheatley Bridge, where the river was OK for the first hour, but then turned off.
Paul Bowers found two decent chub, plus some bits, for a winning 9.12.0, followed by Barry Edwards with 8.14.0 of dace, roach and gudgeon on the whip and maggot.
Like the winner, Andy Webb used pole and caster, catching a chub and bits for 5.14.0, enough for third place.
The Cherwell is still below normal levels at ‘The School’, where Oxford Bus AC held their latest club match.
The five anglers had to work hard for their fish, but at the final whistle it was Pete Clarke who triumphed with a net of roach, perch, small skimmers and the odd bleak for 9.2.0 on the pole with caster.
Using pole and maggot hard against the far bank by the Botanical Gardens, Anthony Tompkins was second with a good bag of roach and perch for 7.1.0.
Dennis Butler fished the stick float and caught roach and perch on maggot for 3.0.0 and third.
Because of parking problems at Walton Well Road, the North Oxford match was moved to Wolvercote Green, where the 12 matchmen found the Oxford Canal a bit of a struggle.
Jason Jones weighed in 4.1.0 of perch on red maggot and chop for first place.
Jason Bean had to settle for second with 3.3.0 of perch and bits on punch and then chop.
Cliff Harris netted a decent perch of 2lb, plus a few small roach and gudgeon, for third.
