One FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie which definitely raised an eyebrow is the pairing between Mansfield Town and Altrincham.
That’s because, when the two sides met in the league last Saturday, all hell let loose.
Altrincham had two men sent off and a further nine yellow cards were branded as the players from both sides gave Ripon referee Andy Halliday a torrid time.
Alty striker Chris Senior’s red card for violent conduct brings him a three-match ban and means he could miss their match at Oxford on October 31, though it dep-ends whether Altrincham are taken to a Cup replay.
Mansfield claim they are delighted to have been paired with Altrincham again in the Cup, so soon after their fiery league clash, and have intimated that Graham Heathcote’s men can expect a hostile atmosphere after Saturday’s battle.
“There is no better place than home to hold a game against recent opposition when you’ve had a feisty encounter,” said Stags boss David Holdsworth. “I don't think my players will need any motivation.”
