JENNY Florey was crowned Oxfordshire ladies champion after beating Pauline Withey in the final, writes PETE EWINS.
Florey saw off Mel Stanbridge 2-0 in the semi-finals to set up a clash against Withey, who defeated Sue Atkins 2-0.
Florey (12,530) then proved too strong for Withey to land the crown. She now represents Oxfordshire in the national finals at Reading on Sunday.
In league action, Vikings started the new campaign with a 4-1 away win at Masons B.
Mike Jones (6,660), Alan Oliver (11,780, break 10,240) and Bob Allsworth (12,240) put their side into a 3-0 lead.
Chris Webb made use of his break by pulling a game back for the home side with a 8,610-3,020 win over Alan Lacey.
But Ian Moss completed a great night with a 6,610-4,360 victory over Martyn Skyme.
The ex-Nelson A side, now called Kennington Social Club, settled into their new home with a 5-0 whitewash over sorry Democrats.
Kevin Godfrey (8,650), Withey (8,790), Ian Gordon (4,110), Mark Trafford (7,060, break 6,410) and Steven Sheard (10,940, break 7,860) were in top form.
Section 2 side Comrades lost 3-2 at Headington Con Club, despite taking an early lead through Simon Ellam.
However, Graham Mildenhall, Sid Ponting and Tim Jeffries put Headington 3-1 ahead, meaning Chris Storch’s victory in the last game was in vain.
Gladiators B won 5-0 at Shelley with Neil Cunliffe (2,100), Richard Stowe (1,830), Phil Clark (3,330), Reg Johnson (3,920) and Jenny Webb (2,130) all victorious.
RESULTS Premier/Section 1: Kennington 5, Democrats 0; Masons B 1, Vikings 4.
Section 2/3: Shelley 0, Gladiators B 5; HCC 3, Comrades 2.
