OXFORD United’s Adam Chapman has been given another chance to enhance his international prospects with a call-up for Northern Ireland Under 21s next week.
The former Sheffield United man has missed out on the last couple of squads.
But his recall to United’s first team has pushed him back into the spotlight so far as Northern Ireland boss Steve Beaglehole is concerned.
Belfast-born Chapman, 19, is set to join up with the Irish squad on Sunday, for their European Championship qualifier in Iceland next Tuesday.
He said: “I got called up for the Portugal game, but because Oxford had the Kettering game I didn’t play in that.
“They then had a double-header which I wasn’t available for, but got on the end of a bad result, a 6-2 defeat at home by Iceland, so I think the manager wanted to freshen it up – we leave on Sunday.
“I’ve got myself back in the team here and have got my fitness up, so when I go away I hope to do well and impress which can only help with future reference to the national team.”
Fellow U’s player Ross Perry is on standby for the Scotland Under 21 squad to face Belarus at St Mirren tomorrow.
