Oxford City’s golden oldies continued their winning streak as their vet 60 team emerged victorious at the British Masters Cross Country Relays Championships at Berry Hill Park in Mansfield.
Staged over a hilly course of approximately 2.7 miles, the strong wind hampered all the runners, but City made light of the conditions.
Dave Parsons led off his teammates and clocked 17 mins 29secs to come home in third place.
Next up was John Exley, who clocked the fastest leg of the day of 16.01.
Roy Treadwell took on the anchor leg with a convincing lead, and enhanced this further with the second-quickest stage of the day (16.19) as City cruised to victory.
City’s vet 50s also had a good day, finishing as runners-up behind Tipton.
It was an excellent result for Oxford, none of whose four runners were on top form, but who all ran above expectation.
Brian Green came home in fifth on the opening leg, clocking 15.02, and he passed the baton on to Stewart Thorp, who clocked 16.19 on leg two.
Phil Huxley took City up to third with a fine leg of 15.38.
Trevor Dixon then recorded 15.27 on the anchor leg to move City up to second place and earn the silver medal.
