Former Oxford United and Oxford City striker Alex Fisher has received a scholarship to the Glenn Hoddle Academy as he seeks to reignite his professional career.
The 19-year-old, from Oxford, impressed during a three-week trial at the academy in Jerez, Spain and joins 20 players, previously released from clubs including Liverpool and Tottenham, on a full-time scholarship.
Hoddle said: “He not only demonstrated his ability with the ball, but also his willingness to learn, something critical to his future success.”
Fisher will have Spanish lessons alongside football coaching.
He will hope to follow former Oxford City winger Ikechi Anya, who joined Sevilla’s second team after his time with the academy.
Fisher was last night due to play for the academy against Real Madrid.
