Chinnor bounced back from two successive defeats with a hard-fought 12-6 victory at Coney Hill in National 3 South West.
Coney Hill had the wind behind them in the first half and went ahead thanks to an Adam Morgan penalty.
Chinnor worked their way back into the game and saw lock Harry Jackman go over from a well-controlled driving maul.
The hosts battered Chinnor’s line with wave after wave of attack, but could only come away with a second Morgan penalty.
Coney Hill came out fired up in the second half and Jackman was yellow-carded, but Chinnor survived several five-metre scrums and produced some strong tackling.
Crucially, at the end, they made a scrum count as No 8 Tom Mowbray fed wing Pip Seymour to score the match-winning try, which replacement James Cathcart converted.
Chinnor’s superior fitness helped them hang on for the win. A strong finish could not prevent Oxford Harlequins losing 29-14 at leaders Old Patesians.
Quins battled back from 29-0 down in the final quarter and were unlucky not to score two further tries.
Patesians took the lead against the run of play on 18 minutes when hooker Ross Bisset was driven over.
Quins had wing Grant Ricker yellow-carded in the 35th minute, before Brett Harvey’s try made it 10-0.
Three soft tries in the second half sealed the hosts’ victory.
Quins full back Huw Jones was deceived by a wicked bounce, which saw centre Barney Pascal score, fly half Adam Seager converting.
Wing Henry Bird and No 9 James Pettigrew completed the damage, Seager converting the latter.
Old Pats prop James King was sin-binned on the hour mark, while Quins seemed to be galvanised by three substitutions.
Jones cut through the defence and sent centre Dominic Maley under the posts for replacement Kenny Sewell to score.
Two minutes later, superb handling saw Maley send replacement flanker Tim Knapp over for a try, which Sewell again converted.
