Chinnor are considering fresh signings as they bid to deal with their early-season injury crisis.

The Thame-based club visit Coney Hill in National 3 South West on Saturday, with a long absentee list including regular starters Ian Stock, Tom Whelan, Matt Hutchings, Toby Prescott and Ben Hewitt.

Head coach Jason Bowers said: “We are certainly investigating some options, but no one is signed up yet.

“We have a very, very good squad. It is just that we have been unfortunate with the number of injuries.

“We are happy with the squad we have got.

“But looking at new players would have been the plan, even if we had a fully-fit squad.”

Scrum half Ricky Hopwood, who helped Buckinghamshire win cricket’s Minor Counties Championship last month, comes into the squad alongside hooker Simon Tattersall, whom Chinnor hope will be fit.

Alex Wallace is set to continue as full back.

Bowers added: “We expect a really tough challenge. Coney Hill beat Oxford Harlequins really comfortably.

“They slipped up last week and I doubt they will want to slip up again at home to a side who have been struggling recently.”

Lock Adam Pearson and full back Huw Jones return as Oxford Harlequins visit unbeaten leaders Old Patesians.

Pearson’s inclusion means Andy Boyle moves to flanker and Tim Knapp drops to the bench, while Andy Noyce shifts to fly half as Mark Forth is unavailable.

Director of rugby John Brodley said: “This is a big test for us. It will tell us a little bit about where we are.

“We are going there with confidence, knowing that we can score, but we need to be a lot sharper in defence.”

Canadian international lock Oliver Atkinson should make his Henley Hawks debut at home to Richmond in National 2 South.

The inclusion of Atkinson, who played for Coventry last season, means skipper Matt Payne can move to blind-side flanker.

Hawks hope to have centre Danny Wells and flanker Adam Holloway fit.
