David Heritage was Horspath 2nd’s inspiration as they became first winners of The Oxford Times Cherwell League's Junior Cup with a 50-run victory over Cumnor 2nd in the final at Bledlow Village.
Skipper Adrian Manger’s decision to bat first looked in danger of backfiring as Horspath slumped to 119-8 following an excellent spell by Rob Shrimpton (5-28).
But then David Heritage, with a superb 48, was joined in what was to prove a match-winning ninth-wicket stand of 52 by Tom Smith (21) before Horspath were bowled out for 173.
Ian Belcher (46) got Cumnor’s reply off to a flying start, before Horspath hit back to reduce them to 63-4.
Heritage (2-15) and 13-year-old leg-spinner Dan Todd (2-14) combined to peg Cumnor back, and with Graham Plested taking four catches, they were bowled out for 123.
