Banbury put one over county rivals Oxford Hawks with a 5-2 win in their friendly on Saturday.
It was the first time in more than 30 years that Banbury had played their Oxfordshire rivals when being in the league above them.
And the 2009 county champions showed their class throughout the game.
After a strong opening ten minutes, Tyson Nunneley despatched a trademark drag flick.
Banbury continued to push, and looked to have taken complete control with further goals by Harry Loxton and George Brooker.
Nick Ferraby and Freddie Copping pulled two goals back in the ten minutes before half-time to bring Hawks right back into the match.
A scrappy opening to the second half saw neither side gain much quality possession, but it was the timely introduction of Adrian Simmons that proved to be the game-breaker.
Simmons slotted home the goal of the game to make it 4-2.
Banbury rubbed salt into the wounds with a late Nunneley drag flick from another short corner to finish off a professional performance.
Banbury hope to have Tom Slay back in their squad for their league opener away to Oxford University this Saturday.
Slay has missed the last three games after getting married.
Ben Wells hit a brace in Witney’s 4-3 win over Banbury 2nd.
Tim Hardy also scored early on for Witney, while Gary White (2) and Nick best were on target for Banbury.
City of Oxford were beaten 3-1 at Aylesbury, with Nick Perks getting their goal.
A brace from Tim Pinnington brought City of Oxford 2nd a 2-1 victory over Aylesbury 2nd.
