Gateshead manager Ian Bogie was proud of his team in what was the Tyneside club’s biggest league match since they dropped out of the Football League 50 years ago.
“I thought we were excellent. I couldn’t have asked any more of my players,” said Bogie, who was sent to the stand in the second half for arguing with an official.
“I thought we had a real go and there wasn’t much in it.
“Oxford are a very good side, they’re the runaway leaders and I’m sure they’ll go on to win the league, and yet we matched them all over the park, I felt.
“It was a very close game, and I’m just disappointed it was settled by what, from our point of view, was a very soft goal.”
