Didcot Tn 0

Paulton Rovers 2 (Jefferies 20, Plummer 56)

Didcot Town crashed out to Zamaretto League Division 1 South & West side Paulton as their poor home form continued in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round.

The Railwaymen can have no complaints as Rovers created most of the chances.

The home side’s best spell came in the opening ten minutes.

Mark Draycott was inches away from a Jamie Heapy cross, while Josh Dutton-Black caused panic in the box with a low cross that Paulton keeper Kyle Phillips claimed at the second attempt.

At the other end, Paulton skipper Dan Cleverley fired over, before the visitors went in front.

Josh Jefferies burst clear and calmly slipped the ball low past Didcot keeper Matt Trott.

It could have been 2-0 moments later when Plummer was denied by a brave stop by Trott.

Just before the break, a cross deep into the Rovers box evaded everyone except Liam Hope, but he was denied by a stunning one-handed save by Phillips.

Three minutes after the break, Michael Hopkins forced another fine save from Phillips, the Rovers’ keeper turning a 25-yard free-kick out for a corner.

But it was no great surprise when Paulton doubled their lead.

Charlie Rich’s free-kick wasn’t dealt with by the home side and Plummer had the easy task of converting at the far post.

Didcot never really looked like getting back into the game, and it was the visitors who nearly added a third as Plummer was denied again.

Chris Lane fired just over from 30 yards, and despite five minutes of stoppage time, Didcot could not find a breakthrough, leaving them to rue yet another failure at the second qualifying round stage.
