Trowbridge Tn 2 (Bonser 20, Gittens 46)

Manager Paul Berry re-signed after Bicester slumped to yet another defeat – this time against struggling Division 1 West side Trowbridge in the preliminary round of the Blue Fin Insurance Cup (FTL Futbol Hellenic League).

Despite a bright opening, which saw strikers John Umney and Matt Blenford miss clear chances, Bicester’s defence backed off in the 20th minute to allow a well-struck Tom Bonser shot to beat Jeff Simmonds.

Barely a minute after the break, Bicester claimed in vain for an offside decision, allowing Paul Gittens to wrap up the scoring.

Bicester secretary Nick Harverson said: “I have great respect for Paul and understand his decision to step down.

“To be frank, there are a number of players who have let themselves and Paul down over the last few weeks. Some of our play has been embarrassing and no amount of coaching can improve a lack of pride.”]
