Promising junior Sandy Bolton will have an operation tomorrow on the injured hand that forced him to pull out of the English County Champions Tournament.

The 17-year-old from Abingdon suffered a freak injury at home when a patio door slammed into his hand.

After a week’s rest Bolton played in the event at Woodhall Spa, but had to withdraw after seven holes with swelling and pain in his hand.

His dad David said: “An X-ray on Monday revealed he has broken the neck of the metatarsal and dislodged a knuckle into the hand “He will have surgery on Friday where they will open the hand and pin it and wire it.

“He is receiving kind letters from many for what is a very important operation.”

Meanwhile, BB&O junior champion Luke Williams (Hadden Hill) finished 22nd in the equivalent event, also at Woodhall Spa, with a 14-over-par total of 160.

AIDEN McKeran did the double in Bicester’s club championship by winning the gross and nett titles.

McKeran shot rounds of 78 and 73 for a nine-over-par total of 151 – five strokes ahead of second-placed Gavin Harvey.

The ten-handicapper also secured the nett crown on 131 by seven strokes from Alex MacDonald.
