Frome Tn 2 (Hulbert 36, Gomes 48)
North Leigh 1 (Helby 28)
North Leigh wilted in the heat as they let slip a one-goal lead to go down to defeat at Frome Town in Division1 South & West.
After a fairly even opening with neither side creating any significant chances, North Leigh took the lead when Andy Helby rose above the defence to head Ryan Curtin’s corner into the bottom corner.
But Frome were soon level. A right-wing cross by Alex Lapham eluded the visitors’ defence and striker Ricky Hulbert headed low past keeper Sam Warrell.
And North Leigh fell behind early in the second half when a cross was cleared to Joe Gomes who unleashed a stunning volley from 20 yards, giving Warrell no chance.
Hulbert should have increased Frome's lead after the visitors were caught on the break, but he headed over unchallenged from six yards.
North Leigh had a couple of half chances with Karl Dodds and Helby sending chances over the bar.
Warrell made a double save from Lapham to keep North Leigh in the game.
But their last decent chance disappeared when Stuart Hole's rising shot from 20 yards cleared the bar.
North Leigh: Warrell, Posey, Curtin (Saunders 67), Helby, Huxley, Dodds, Smith (Holder 43), Hole, Taylor, McCabe (Wyatt 76), Allen.
Attendance: 202.
