Despite being so unhappy with the second 45 minutes, Oxford United boss Chris Wilder was pleased to see Jack Midson get some more game time and score a fine goal.

“It was a good goal from Jack,” he said.

“He wants to show what a brilliant player he is but I said to him on Friday: what are you good at? Winning headers, getting hold of it, linking it up, putting crosses in and getting in the box, and he did that when he came on.

“That’s what my players have got to realise – do what you’re good at.

“My team ethics are that we work hard and we compete, and we play as a team, and I didn’t think we did that second half.

“If my reaction shocked one or two players I don’t care, because it’s my job to ensure we play how I want us to play.

“One or two out there thought they could just do one or two bits and pieces.

“If we do that, we haven’t got any chance of winning anything or getting in the play-offs.”
