THE Predator Open on Stable Lake at Kirtlington was fished by 16 matchmen in near perfect conditions and Andy Benwell (Predator) took full advantage to come out on top with a bag of carp weighing 120.13.0.
He fished at 14 metres either straight out in front or down the edge, alternating between maggot and paste.
Steve Johnson (Maggots End) was runner-up with a mixed bag of carp and bream on maggot weighing 105.7.0.
Fishing the pole to the island, Rob Guppy (RS Baits) also caught some slabs and carp on maggot, weighing in a third-placed 86.6.0.
Thirteen Charlbury members travelled to Lodge Farm, which switched on in the last couple of hours.
Steve Arthurs used paste at five metres to triumph with 60.12.0 of small carp.
Although arriving late after a car breakdown, Clive Taylor weighed in 47.8.0 on maggot fished shallow for second, followed by Mark Rivett, who was third with 30.4.0 of carp in the margins on paste.
It was a sell-out for Sutton Courtenay’s Individual Championship fished by 25 on a very hard Buscot Park lake, which was probably affected by the cool night-time temperatures.
The first three places were taken by anglers who all fished the pole with worm over chop.
Andy Whittington triumphed with a net of skimmers and a carp weighing 15.14.0.
Dave James landed a decent bream, plus skimmers and tench, for a second-placed 10.9.0.
In third place, four ounces behind, was Martin Gardener, whose catch comprised all small carp.
The Thames at Folly fished very well for the ten anglers fishing Kidlington’s Bass Charrington Trophy, with plenty of fish being caught.
Drawing the top end of Coca-Cola Bay, Paul Jackman fished the stick float with maggot and caught perch and roach worth a winning 13.4.0.
Dave Britnell was on the maggot-feeder and caught roach and perch, some of the latter going over a pound, for 12.5.0 and second.
Jason Bean had to settle for third place with 12.0.0 of roach and perch caught on pole and maggot.
Points after 6 matches: J Bean 48, H Clarke 37, G Cuss 35, A Middleton 34.
Sixteen anglers fished the Masons’ match on the Thames at Radley from the boathouse downstream.
Alan Smith took the honours, fishing the waggler with maggot or hemp and tares for a net of small roach and perch weighing 12.3.0.
Also on the waggler and maggot, Chris Webb caught roach worth a second-placed 6.14.0, pipping Jason Smith who had 6.10.0 on the wag and maggot.
The Cherwell is well down at the Oxford Bus AC School Waters, but still managed to produce a few fish for the seven anglers who fished their latest match.
Pete Clarke was the winner with a net of perch, roach and ever-reliable bleak on pole and worm for 8.10.0.
Also using worm, George Kingston was second with a mixed net of roach and perch weighing 4.11.0.
In third place with 3.8.0 was Keith Blake, who fished the pole at eight metres, alternating between maggot and worm.
The Thames at Carrott’s Ham looked spot-on for the North Oxford AS Pixie Shield, fished by seven members.
They were all pegged below the oak tree and for the first couple of hours, the river fished well.
Then the easterly wind got up which turned very cold and it became hard work.
Feeding chop and maggot, Anthony Tompkins fished the pole with red maggot for a winning 6.0.0 of skimmers and roach.
Maurice Winstone used the same tactics to weigh in 4.7.0 of perch, and third with 3.4.0 was John Coleman, who fed hemp and caster and caught roach on the maggot.
