Oxford City Stars have been handed a huge lift on the eve of this weekend’s double-header after Juraj Rusic agreed to join.
Slovakian-born Rusic has played at a higher level for Swindon Wildcats and Isle of Wight Raiders and is very highly thought of.
He will make his debut in today’s away trip to Peterborough Islanders, before 24 hours later turning out on home ice for the first time against Bracknell Hornets.
Stars started their Division 1 campaign with defeat against Invicta Dynamos – but will be desperate to put that behind them for this weekend’s matches.
However, they must do so without the impressive Shannon Taylor and stalwart Dean Francis, both through injury.
Defender Mark Krater is also doubtful.
Rusic though, provides a massive boost. His experience at the higher levels should be invaluable, and Stars are confident that his inclusion will add a cutting-edge to their attacking play.
Notably, Rusic is the first non-British trained player to don the Stars jersey for sev-eral seasons.
Head coach Simon Anderson, who worked with Rusic at Whitelink Raiders, from where he joined Oxford, is hopeful his arrival can help ensure a four-point weekend.
Doors for Stars’ home game on Sunday open at 5.30 for a 6.15 face-off.
