Henley have signed a three-month coaching contract with Clive Griffiths, the former Wales and Great Britain rugby league coach.

Griffiths takes up his appointment this week and will be working with Hawks head coach Jason Forster.

They had previously worked together at Doncaster Knights in 2006-07 when Griffiths was director of rugby and Forster captain and forwards coach.

Griffiths said: “My first job is to observe and analyse and my target is improvement.”

This will certainly be the focus at Dry Leas tomorrow when the Hawks play newly promoted Barnes in National 2 South.

Hawks still have five key players unavailable with Dan Smaje (scrum-half) and Steve Green ( lock) on the long-term injury list, Hugo Milford-Scott out until October, and Ali James and James Gaunt working with Oxford University.

They are also without young prospects Will Fulton (fly-half) and Will Jones (wing) through injury.

Oxford Harlequins will give two experienced players their debuts as they seek their first victory in National 3 South West.

Coach John Brodley, whose side have lost their opening two league matches, has picked ex-Harrogate lock fotward Andy Boyle and winger Xavier Andre, formerly of Otley, in their side to travel to Weston-super-Mare.

Huw Jones is available at full-back, which means that Martin Nutt is switched to the centre.

“We hope these moves will makes us more penetrative than last week,” said Brodley, who saw his outfit crushed 45-19 at home to Coney Hill.
