Girls rugby in Oxfordshire is going from strength-to-strength, with more clubs than ever playing competitive matches.
The county are looking build on last season’s success which saw them reach two Sevens’ finals, as well as having nine girls playing at regional level.
Witney, Grove, Chinnor, Wallingford, Banbury and Oxford all have squads at both under 15 and under 18 levels. Maggie Alphonsi, flanker for the England and club coach officer for London & Thames Valley said: “Girls rugby in Oxfordshire is steadily growing – we are very fortunate to have a wealth of volunteers helping to recruit.”
Clare Cooper, women’s rugby development manager for the south, added: “With the Women’s Rugby World Cup coming to England in 2010, we now have a fantastic opportunity to increase the number of female players across the county.”
County trials are taking place at Oxford RFC, 12.30pm on September 27.
