Oxford City 4 (Baird 33, 76, 78, Brooks 50)

Kidlington 2 (Baker 40, 47)

Andy Baird struck two late goals to complete a hat-trick and help Oxford City to end Kidlington’s brave challenge in a rousing derby clash at Court Place Farm on Saturday.

The Hellenic League visitors, cheered on by more than 100 vocal supporters, actually took a surprise 2- 1 lead early in the second half, but Baird’s clinical finishing won the day for the Southern League hosts.

Jimmy Deabill went close early on for Kidlington, who were unfortunate to lose Brad Chalmers through injury.

City took the lead when a Kidlington attack on the City left was broken up by Dave Perpetuini, who released Baird.

Having outstripped the defence, he finished in style with the outside of his right foot from a narrow angle.

Kidlington equalised five minutes before half-time when Mark Baker outpaced the City defence and placed the ball wide of oncoming keeper Richard Knight.

The visitors went ahead two minutes into the second half when Baker produced a carbon copy of his first strike, from Jack Quainton’s pass.

The visiting fans sensed a shock, but their lead last only three minutes when Jamie Brooks pounced to make it 2-2 after good work from City substitute Lee Steele.

Both side’s probed for the next vital goal with Kidlington’s Tom McNamara the busier of the two keepers.

With 15 minutes left, he could not prevent Baird heading in from Dave Savage’s cross.

City went further ahea when Baird challenged McNamara’s attempted clearance, and won possession before curling a 25-yard effort into the empty net for his hat-trick.
