Wantage were overpowered by a physically stronger and generally more robust Mangotsfield team in the FA Cup 1st qualifying round The Southern League Division 1 South & West hosts took the lead early on when Mike Trought turned the ball in at the near post.
Eight minutes later, the Mangotsfield midfielder scored his second as a long corner was headed back for Trought to head past Darryl Simms in the Wantage goal.
Wantage began the second half brightly, Richie Guy forcing a great save from the experienced Tony Court in the Mangotsfield goal, followed by another fine save from shot by Tom Malton Mangotsfield sealed the tie in the 67th minute when substitute Luke Prosser drove through a crowd of players from just outside the box, giving Simms little chance.
Wantage: Simms, Webb (McCullough 51), Copp, Swann, Wallbridge (Illsey 70), Malton, Austin, Belcher, Claydon (Horsell 60), Guy, Jones. Subs not used: Dewar, Bourne, Dale.
Attendance: 140.
