Luke Foster saluted the resilience of Oxford United, who simply will not let up.
Chris Wilder’s men again refused to take their foot off the gas as they chalked up a third successive victory, and fifth clean sheet in a row, in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Wrexham.
The triumph, coupled with Mansfield’s home defeat by Stevenage, means the U’s are now seven points clear at the top of the Blue Square Premier having completed their opening ten games unbeaten.
“We stayed strong right till the end,” said Foster, who was again outstanding in an impressive all-round team performance.
With midfielders Simon Clist and Jamie Cook also making terrific defensive blocks, Foster hailed the U’s work ethic.
“That’s what we’re about now, everyone’s chipping in and digging in – the midfielders behind the centre halves making a last-ditch block, it’s fantastic,” said the centre back.
“We’ve just got to keep doing that and working for each other.
“Things are starting to look good, but we’ve got to stay focused and look at each individual game.”
U’s skipper Adam Murray was nursing a sore back after a hot-tempered match, in which both teams had a player sent off and the ref produced half a dozen other yellow cards.
But he too paid tribute to the way United are refusing to ease off.
“Our main thing is that no-one takes our foot off the pedal,” he said.
“This league’s the sort where in every game we’re going to have to work hard to keep the run going, and everybody’s prepared to put their body on the line.
“We know we’re going to have to keep doing that to keep getting results.
“We can’t afford any let-ups, because we know we’ll then be kicked up the backside, as you see so on in football.”
United manager Chris Wilder said: “The thing I’m really delighted about is that we put a hell of a lot of effort into the game against Luton on Tuesday night and I didn’t want a sloppy reaction.
