FA Cup 1st qualifying round
Oxford City manager Mike Ford has warned against any complacency when they host FTL Futbol Hellenic League neighbours Kidlington in the first qualifying round at Court Place Farm on Saturday.
Ford believes that an FA Cup run to the first round can be realised by his side, but only if they approach each game with the right attitude.
He said: “Everything is set up for a major shock tomorrow. It’s a local derby against a good side who probably have nothing to lose.
“For Kidlington it’s a big game, but for us it’s even bigger – it’s massive.
“Every year we speak about getting to the first round of the FA Cup, to experience the glory of playing in front of 30,000 at places like Leeds.
“If we want to do that, we must win matches like tomorrow’s – it’s a huge game for us.
“Kidlington are no mugs and they have some good players.
“But ifwe can build on what we achieved last week at Leamington, then we will play very well and have a great chance of progressing.
“If we are not at it, Kidlington could make it a very uncomfortable afternoon.”
Alex Fisher misses the game as he is on the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain for the next three weeks, but Andy Baird and Craig Faulconbridge both return to the City side.
Kidlington boss Gordon Geary said: “As underdogs, we can play with the freedom of a team that has nothing to prove.”
New signing Jordan Parker, who has signed from North Leigh, is cup-tied, but Ben Willoughby, who has joined from Old Woodstock, comes into the squad.
Banbury United are at home to fellow Southern League Premier Division side Chippenham Town.
Boss Billy Jeffrey has a full-strength squad to choose from.
Abingdon United travel to Hellenic League outfit Highworth Town.
James Faulkner (cup-tied) and Luke Holden (holiday) are missing from an otherwise full-strength squad.
Boss Andy Slater said: “We had some ding-dong battles with Highworth in our Hellenic days, and they will be no pushover.”
Didcot Town welcome back Morgan Williams from suspension as they host Hellenic League side Shrivenham at Loop Meadow.
Josh Dutton-Black has recovered from a hamstring injury, while Matty Jack also returns.
Witney United include new signing Jack Smith for their trip to Shortwood as they bid to reach the second qualifying round for the first time.
Defender Smith has joined from Oxford United’s youth team on work experience, and has been given clearance to play by the U’s.
Lee Henderson returns after recovering from a broken nose, but skipper John McMahon is suspended.
