Wantage trainer Henry Candy was delighted to see Markab finally gain reward for some terrific runs in big handicaps this season with victory in the Great St Wilfrid Stakes at Ripon on Saturday.
The six-year-old powered home by a neck from Tamagin in the six-furlong heritage handicap under Pat Cosgrave.
And Candy, who skipped the trip north to saddle Wiggy Smith at Newbury, said: “It was well deserved. Things went for him today because he had company.”
