Banbury Borough’s Keith Holloway, Gary Lucas, Richard Redford and Alan Prew were blown away 26-7 by Bath’s Andy Taylor, Richard Doughty, Kevin Rowdon and Craig Doughty in the men’s National Fours Championship first round at Worthing.
Kidlington’s Keith Keen, David Snell, Chris Weller and John Hardie also fell at the first hurdle, but pushed Andrew Tatt, Gary Allen, Ian Robb and Eddie Allen (Herne Bay, Kent) all the way before going down 23-19.
In the junior singles, Banbury Central’s George Schwab went out 21-11 to Cheltenham’s Mike Woodbridge in the first round, while Watlington’s Chris Gilkes was beaten 21-14 by Andrew Board (St Stephens, Cornwall).
Hagbourne’s Rex Moore, Alan Bowler, John Heapy and Paul Ryman suffered a 22-21 defeat by John Sewell, Derek Kellow, Robert Aves and Peter Boldero (Downham Market, Norfolk) in the preliminary round.
l Oxfordshire ran out 127-98 winners over City and County of Bristol in their friendly at Redland Green BC.
