A cracking night's racing was served up for the Sky TV cameras and it was no surprise that He Went Whoosh duly delivered in the final showdown to land the £5,000 William Hill Cesarewitch before a healthy crowd at Oxford Stadium on Tuesday.
All was nicely back in place after the sudden cloudburst on Saturday night forced management to abandon the meeting as ceiling tiles floated down on the diners.
On the track, Whoosh, trained by Claud Gardiner at Hove, produced different tactics to deny Oxford's unlikely hero in Melodys Comet.
Whoosh, who won his two qualifiers after leading all the way, took a back seat as Comet got a flyer from the boxes, hitting a fantastic 15.02secs sectional.
And most in the stadium thought that trainer Richard Yeates, who scored in the first TV race with Alfie Sparra, had the £5,000 in the bag, but come the finale, Whoosh dug deep to rally on the line getting up by a neck to win in 39.56.
The locals did have their moments though, for as well as Alfie Sparra winning, Angie Kibble's Hillcross Orion took up the running at the third bend to leave his field trailing to post a superb 26.66 in the williamhillpoker.com stakes which proved the fastest 450m time of the night.
Nick Colton's Greyfox Millie ran well, but has to give best to Westmead Pal, while Officer McDonagh posted 14.98 to win the sprint event.
It's rare to see a dog break the 15-second barrier over two bends here.
l The Robert Hannan trained Aislings Choice, who made her debut in the Cesarewitch, finished lame at Swindon after a 509m open race, while Kisskissbangdang – withdrawn on Tuesday night – has a wrist injury and he could be off for two months.
