OXFORD City’s Stephen Male won the 25th Thame 10K road race in tropical conditions.
He finished in 33mins 53secs, some 11 seconds ahead of Alchester’s Nigel Marley, who was running for Coventry Godiva, with Headington Roadrunner James Eve taking third place, and White Horse Harriers’ Paul Jegou fourth.
The heat and humidity took their toll on the 920 runners who completed the run.
Experience counted in the wilting conditions, which was reflected in the fact that both male and female winners were veterans – Oxford City’s Male, with Jane Preen of Milton Keynes AC the leading lady.
This was a record entry and organisers have agreed to limit the number of entrants in future to make it more manageable.
