Trainer Richard Yeates will carry local hopes with Melodys Comet in the final of the £6,000 William Hill Cesarewitch final at Oxford Stadium on Tuesday.
The black dog, who has just done enough to qualify in the heats, has yet to get a decent start over the trip.
And, considering he has a sectional time over two bends of 15.07secs here, will command respect in the final showdown, which is being televised live by Sky Sports.
However, the Claud Gardiner Hove-trained black dog He Went Whoosh will have massive support after winning both his races at Oxford in great fashion.
He followed up his heat win by seven lengths over Mauger Major with a three-and-a-half length success over White Blaze and is sure to head the market come Tuesday.
He Went Whoosh took £3,000 out of the rails bookmakers in the heats last week, when it lived up to his name.
The Cesarewitch final is supported by open races, one of which will include the Terry Kibble-trained Droopys Ulrich, one of the most improved pups at the Stadium.
Ulrich began in an A6, winning by more than ten lengths in 27.26, and went straight into an A2 and prevailed again in 27.16.
Tony Magnasco's August 2007 puppy, Primo Marina, is another youngster who has impressed.
She won on her debut and then went into season. She posted a superb 15.21 over two bends and hopes are high for the bitch.
