Oxford's Sophie Marriott will be walking in the footsteps of Rafael Nadal and Venus Williams after winning at the county finals stage of the HSBC Road to Wimbledon National 14 and Under Challenge this week.
Fourteen-year-old Marriott will represent Oxfordshire at the national finals in August on the world-famous grass courts of the All England Club after beating other young tennis hopefuls in the county final.
Marriott, who plays at White Horse Tennis Centre in Abingdon, celebrated after beating Alice Atkins of Drayton in the final 4-1, 4-1, and will be joined at Wimbledon by Sebastian Rey, 14, of Wantage, who won the boys’ section.
Some 50 players from 19 clubs and schools in Oxfordshire took part in the county finals.
