Headington School completed a great treble when their eight won the Junior school event event at the Henley Women’s Regatta, writes Mike Rosewell.
This gave the local schoolgirls the seldom achieved “big three” with wins in the Schools Head, the National Schools and Henley.
Their final success at Henley came with a great final against Portora BC, from Northern Ireland, whom Headington beat by half-a-length in a record time of 5min 2secs.
The Headington girls also won the junior 16 fours.
City of Oxford’s women’s coxed four reached the final of a heavily-subscribed elite fours ebefore being beaten by a composite Great Britain under 23 group.
A former Headington local girl, Katie Greves, was in Munich, stroking the British quad scull to a World Cup silver medal, while Tom Solesbury, from this year’s victorious Boat Race crew, was in the men’s eight which won bronze medals.
Oxford Brookes were the outstanding local club at the two-day Marlow Regatta on Dorney Lake.
Two Brookes eights and a coxed four finished in the top spot, while their the pair were pushed into second.
Radley recorded a win for their junior 15 eight and three second places.
