Some superb throwing by Terry Stuart saw Woodman lose their unbeaten record in Section 3.
Stuart, playing for Red Lion Old Marston, clanged off 15 dolls (5-6-4) as his side won all three legs, chasing each time, to take over at the top.
The first two legs were tight, with only one doll seperating the teams, Lion winning 21-20 and then 22-21.
In the final rubber, Lion really roared – hitting a massive 28 dolls to Woodman’s 17 to go top of the section.
Quarry Gate are still looking for their first win of the season after another defeat, this time away at Green Road Club.
Quarry Gate set all three legs, scoring 14-10-14, but Green Road Club won with replies of 17-13-17.
Despite scoring five more dolls than their opponents, Dogwood still lost 2-1 in a tight match at home to Gladiators in Section 2.
Dogwood lost the first leg 22-21, with anchor Elaine May knocking off the three dolls needed to win the leg.
Dogwood levelled with a 24-18 victory in the second, but lost a three-stick shoot-out in the decider as Gladiators edged home.
Paul Holt was Dogwood’s top dog with 13 dolls (4-5-4).
Tony Barrett (5-4-4) and Gary Chamberlain (5-5-3) both hit a baker’s dozen as Six Bells had a comfortable 3-0 victory at home to Cowley Workers, winning 25-16, 20-13, 19-16.
The top two clashed in Section 5 and it was The Bull that claimed top spot with a 2-1 success at home to Red Lion Kidlington.
With the game nicely poised at a leg each, Bull set 21 in the final leg, which was more than enough as Red Lion fell five dolls short.
It was many happy returns for Brill Club’s Ian Houghton as he smashed a six on his birthday.
To top it all, they also ran out 2-1 victors against White Hart in Section 6.
In Section 9, Kevin Bloomfield produced a sensational display, but his side still lost at home to Littlemore Rugby Club.
Littlemore took the opening leg 15-12 and then set 15 in the second.
It seemed to be enough as Blackbird’s anchor man Kevin Bloomfield was left six to win.
His first stick brushed the doll off, before his next five were spot-on to give him a six and claim victory.
However, Littlemore eased to an 18-12 triumph in the final leg to claim success.
Ashton remain top after a very close win at Northway B.
The first two legs were tied 15-15, 14-14, with both teams winning one leg apiece on three sticks.
The final leg saw Ashton win 13-10 to stay at the summit.
Section 12 leaders Jack Russell beat bottom-placed The Priory 3-0, winning the legs 13-9, 14-6, 14-12.
