Neil Lyon, last year’s winner, and runner-u, Kevin Baker, made it safely through to the last four of the Greene King Oxford & District League singles competition.
Played at four different venues down to the winner, who qualifies for the semi-finals at a later date, Lyon, of the Three Pigeons, battled through at Garsington Sports Club.
Lyon beat Pete Shepher, from The George B, 2-0 and then defeated teammate Eddie Lacey in the semi.
In a closely-fought final, Lyon edged past The Cricketers’ Phil Wilkins.
Baker, from The Cricketers, also battled his way through to the last four at the Plough.
After a straightforward win against Jason Weller, from the George, he beat Pip Goulding 2-1 in the semi, with one of the legs going to three sticks.
In the final he beat Steve Bayliss, from the George, the first leg going to three sticks.
Leading doll scorer Kevin Giles also made it through to the last four at The Cricketers.
Giles beat Andy Beal from the Six Bells in the first round, setting a maximum six in the first leg and beating a set of three in the next leg.
He then beat teammate Steve Walton in the second round.
Walton set four in the final leg, but Giles was on fire and clanged off five dolls to win the leg and the tie.
He then defeated Keith Alder, from Garsington Sports, 2-0 in the semi.
Ian Bowler, from the George B, did well to reach the final, but nothing could stop Giles in the form he was in, and he had a comfortable 2-0 win.
The surprise package came at the Quarry Gate where Dick Walsh, from the Six Bells, will play in the last four for the first time.
Walsh was in superb form, knocking off three sixes as he beat John Greenaway, Willy Waite and Pete Dempsey.
In the Ted Houghton singles, for sections 4 and below, Glyn Millard, from the Fairview, fought his way to the final at the Jolly Postboys.
Millard beat Luke Maylon, Keith Bull and Brian Lester.
Lee Gillet defeated Sue Hendron 2-0, Robert Taylor 2-1, and Paul Fullick to reach the final for the first time.
