DEFENDING ODDA Premier League ladies champions Shelley Arms were given a jolt by visiting Vikings Social Club this week.
Vikings took a shock lead when Gill Cooper beat Pat Newman.
Shelley hit back and wins from Cindy Chalmers, newly-crowned singles champion Kim Ledbury and Denise Pape – Pape hitting a maximum 180 – gave them a 3-1 lead.
Vikings pulled one game back when Pat David defeated Hazel Prowton, but Shelley restored the lead to 4-2 after Paulette Guy beat Nicola Slay, and a 3-0 pairs win gave Shelley a flattering 7-2 success.
Florence Park Community Centre C got off to a flier at Quarry Gate C thanks to wins from Jo Gleed, Carol Harwood and Angie Pointin.
Quarry pulled one back when Greta Britnell beat Michelle Ewins, but wins from Tina Hamilton and Clare Bywaters, who hit a 154 finish, put Parkin charge, and a 3-0 pairs win made it 8-1.
Playing in the top section for the first time, Florence Park Comm Centre B scored a fine 6-3 win over Blackbird Bar.
Men’s Section 1 outfit Littlemore British Legion chalked up a surprise 5-4 win over Premier side College Oak A.
A fine win in the opening game from Darryl Ingram gave them the lead.
The visitors levelled when Paul Champ (pictured) beat Nick Baldwin, but Peter King (180) beat Barry Radford to put Legion ahead again.
College captain Michael Wilkes defeated Bob Brown to level the scores at 2-2, only to see Legion forge two ahead when Alan Eckart and Peter Jones both won.
Despite losing the pairs 2-1, they held on to win.
Premier League Marston British Legion C were given a big fright by Section 1 Rose Hill Community Centre.
Wins for Bob Boyce (180) and Jason Taylor gave Rose Hill a 3-1 lead, but Legion hit back to lead 4-2 after the singles games and went on to win 5-4 despite Rose Hill’s 2-1 pairs triumph.
Folly Bridge Inn went 3-0 up at Section 3 rivals College Oak B, courtesy of wins from Martin Worrall, Paul Davis and Charles Guinan.
The home side stormed back to level when Jason Hutchison, Shane Paintin and Mike Woodbridge all won.
And in a thrilling finale, Folly Bridge edged the pairs 2-1 for a 5-4 win.
In Section 5, Nuffield Lounge came from two down to beat New Club 5-4 with early successes from Steve Perks and Dan Jones.
New Club went 3-2 up with a win from Robert Bradford, only to see Nuffield level when Martin Atherton won the last singles game.
Nuffield then won the pairs 2-1 for a 5-4 success.
