THE announcement of a 'wrong' result in the first race at the Sky Sports-covered Belle Vue meeting on Tuesday, caused mayhem among punters and TV experts alike.
Everyone except the judge thought Jimmy The Singer got the verdict in a photo-finish over long-time leader Shale Dimitar.
But an indistinct photo showed that Dimitar appeared to have won, but was quickly contested by Sky's betting reporter Dave Smith, who incidentally is also racecourse judge in horse racing.
He concluded the heads of the two greyhounds appeared crossed on the image and the wrong winner was called.
His side-kick Gary Wiltshire, the former Oxford bookmaker could not believe it, and several bookmakers called him to say they would be paying out on both as winners.
The judges’ decision is final, but GRA racing boss Bob Rowe requested a probe and the results were forwarded to the British Greyhound Racing Board.
It happened in the final of the £6,000 Showsec Security Scurry Gold Cup where the Paddy Curtin-trained Farloe Ferdinand, the outsider at 12-1 lost to Centaur Allstar.
He led home kennelmate Officer Donagh for a 1-2 for trainer Chris Allsopp.
However, Richard Yeates-trained Melody Comet ran away with the Coral TV Marathon at Romford. He trials at Oxford ahead of the Cesarewitch.
Yeates was out of luck with Freedom Emma when she attracted trouble twice in the semi-finals of the Gymcrack Stakes at Hall Green.
Angie Kibble's star Hillside Orion posted the fastest sprint time of the year when winning the 280m sprint at Coventry.
Stone Park Woods, Tic Tac Gold, Alfie Sparra, Killishin Mica and Deposit Box lost out.
The Maurice Massey-trained Killishin Jet Blue posted 37.14 in a Cesarewitch trial over 595m.
The William Hill Cesarewitch has been held since 1928 and celebrates its ninth anniversary at Oxford. The event is live on Sky TV.
l Keep an eye on the two Burwood pups Burwood Inca and Burwood Freddy.
Inca won, posting 27.37 and Freddy in 27.04. Both are trained by Johnny Mayo.
l MONDAY'S trial session saw a superb show from Tony Magnasco's newcomer Ardmayle Light, a January 2007 whelp recording 26.74 in only his second trial.
Paddy Curtin was also delighted with the performance of Bower Vito who posted 27.27 in his first trial.
