The 20 matchmen who fished the Kinloch AC match last Sunday at Rolf’s Lake were in a sombre mood as former club secretary Pete Langley had passed away the previous day and a minute’s silence was held in his memory.
Most of the carp in the lake were on the top of the water and it was not until the last hour that they really got their heads down.
Fred Harrison came out on top with 133.6.0 of carp, taken at 12 metres on either prawn or white maggot.
Second place with 102.5.0 of carp was Bill Bryant, who alternated between caster and maggot.
Phil Weston fished caster and pellet for a third-placed 62.10.0.
Yarnton travelled over to Boddington for their latest club match, where the 14 anglers were pegged on 86 to 100 and the reservoir was down a little.
At the weigh-in, Scott Miller (Predator) finished first with 131.14.0 of carp on feeder with pellet.
Nick Collier fished the pellet feeder at distance and weighed in 88.10.0 for second, while Roy Cox was third with 72.1.0 on the feeder.
Gary Pether was a clear winner of the latest Masons AC match fished by 11 at Stable Lake, Kirtlington.
Fishing poled maggot tight to the island, he caught bream and carp for a winning 74.0.0. Second with 18.0.0 was Matt Wyatt, followed by Nick Newitt with 17.0.0.
With the fish recovering after spawning, it was hard work for the 19 anglers in the latest Carp League 2009 match at Lower Court.
At the final whistle, Predator’s Andy Benwell took the honours with 44.14.0 of carp on caster fished shallow and paste.
Nick Dean, also fishing caster shallow, had to settle for second spot with 43.13.0, while Phil Powell took third with 41.9.0.
There was a big Open match on the Kennet and Avon canal at Great Bedwyn/Little Bedwyn, where 66 matchmen turned out.
Normally, you need 20lb to win on this venue, with skimmers making up the top weights, but on this occasions it was disappointing.
With 375 roach weighing 10.6.0, Mick Elliott (Oxford Drennan) triumphed, fishing squat over groundbait.
Second with 8.9.0 of roach was Bob Grillow, followed by Paul Glenfield (Garbolino Banbury Gunsmiths), who had two decent perch on chop, plus roach.
The North Oxford AS club match was fished on the Oxord Canal at King’s Bridge by 11 anglers and a lot of boat traffic could have affected the low returns.
Alan Middleton was the winner for the second match in a row with a net of silver fish weighing 4.10.0, from peg one by the bungalow. He used small balls of groundbait and pinkie on the hook.
Maurice Winstone weighed in skimmers and roach on pinkie or red maggot worth a second-placed 2.14.0, with Anthony Tompkins returning 2.6.0 for third.
A Match is being held every Thursday evening during the summer on Stable Lake, drawing at 5.15pm and fishing 6pm-9pm. Contact Tony Wright at Predator on 01865 372066 or call into their Kidlington shop.
