Despite an appalling weekend, weather-wise, one of the most crucial matches was completed in the Wilson OLTA League’s Men’s Black Division where Woodstock were hosts to Banbury.
Both teams were undefeated and it was a game that Woodstock had to win to keep them in contention with Banbury and Esporta.
Woodstock had their chances, but Banbury came through to win 3-1, leaving them only one point behind Woodstock with two games in hand.
The Banbury pair of Godwin Abah and Shola Adebisi beat Manoj Gujral and Rob Powell 2-6, 7-6, 7-5 and also overcame Anumod Gujral and Paul Casey 6-3, 6-3.
Manod Gujral and Powell beat Shola Ariwayo and Carl Jebitt 7-6, 6-4, but Ariwayo and Jebitt defeated Anumod Gujral and Casey 6-4, 6-3.
Another impressive win came from Appleton men’s A team. They beat Watlington 4-0, conceding only seven games all afternoon.
It looks as though they will run away with Division 5.
In Ladies’ Scarlet Division, Esporta continue to do well, this time with a 4-0 win over Oxford Sports D. The team of Sarah Weston and Carrie Bates, Lynda Sutton and Nicola Hunter only conceded four games in their most impressive win of the season to date.
l OXFORD City ladies beat Cholsey 3-0 to retain the Crossflight-sponsored AEGON Team Oxfordshire League.
An entertaining match saw Jo Love and Louisa Kent overcome the challenge of Charlotte Turner and Heather Harrison.
